The installation of the new swimming pool at Southwell School involved comprehensive electrical work to support the facility’s operation, safety, and functionality. This included the removal and re-routing of existing electrical infrastructure, as well as the installation of new systems tailored to the pool environment.

Electrical Scope:

  • Cable Isolation & Disconnection:
    • Isolation, disconnection, and removal of submain cables supplying the existing laundry building to make way for the new pool systems.
    • Diversion of existing Ringmain 2 cables between the main switchboard and the management building to facilitate the pool’s power needs.
  • New Electrical Connections:
    • Installation of a Jean Muller NH1 250A fuse-disconnect at pillar box PB-2, fitted with 125A gL-gG fuse links.
    • Running of a 35mm² 4c + NS submain cable from PB-2 to the new pool plant room for power supply.
  • Distribution & Control:
    • Installation of a custom-made IP54 distribution board and control panel to manage power and control systems for the pool.
    • Electrical reticulation throughout the site, including ducts into the plant room for incoming submains and outgoing sub-circuit cabling.
  • Lighting & Power Systems:
    • Interior and exterior lighting, including special in-ground sign lighting for visibility.
    • Installation of general-purpose socket outlets and wiring for fixed appliances and equipment.
    • Emergency, exit, and evacuation lighting systems to meet safety regulations.
  • Swimming Pool Equipment:
    • Electrical systems for pool heat-pump and filtration equipment, including wiring and control for the Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) for the filter pump. This section was managed on a design-build basis, ensuring it met the specific needs of the swimming pool's operations.
    • Power supplies and controls for retractable pool covers, improving operational efficiency and safety.
  • Earthing & Bonding:
    • Main earthing and earth conductors installation.
    • Equipotential bonding, including special bonding for swimming pool environments to meet stringent safety regulations.

The plant room is fitted with a distribution board for all electrical requirements, including power, lighting, and pool heating systems.

All electrical boards for this project were manufactured by ON Switchgear (Visit ON Switchgear website).
