Hamilton Boys High School
The Hamilton Boys High School Cricket Dome is the first air-supported structure of its type in New Zealand. The bias-harness cable net system, with its unique safety network of vinyl-coated cables can withstand the most severe environmental conditions and the air-tight anchorage system provides even greater stability. Angle bars anchor the cable net and the structure's envelope. The system can withstand high winds of up to 150mph.
The HVAC air handling unit keeps the dome inflated at a set pressure and has a stand-by generator should there be a power cut to keep the dome inflated.
The LED lights are specifically designed to be hung from the structure. At 440 watts, the lights are designed to point up and bounce light off the structure providing an even lux level inside. The lights are made from aluminium so they are not affected if hit by a ball.
Elektron installed the full electrical system for the cricket dome. The electrical engineering services comprise of the following components:
• 400V service mains cables
• Main outdoor pillar box with source changeover and distribution board
• Power supplies to HVAC unit and generator
• Control wiring
• All general power and lighting
